Rich dense deep red with intense purple fringes lifting to hints of crimson brick on the meniscus.
Initially the nose is filled with fat rich aromas of spicy yeast buns redolent with plums. Soaring over these rich base notes is a heady combination of red berry compote layered with cassis and red currant finishing with a black boy rose petal perfume.
Rich yeasty plum pudding studded with preserved red berries and raspberry finishing notes. An intense mouth filling richness that lingers on and on combined with the intense fruit sweetness lift and project the flavours throughout the whole palate. The gentle suggestion of coconut vanilla from the American oak leaves the palate clean and uncluttered. Bold but beautifully balanced.
For many years now, Deb has marched in the vanguard of female Graf artists in a traditionally male dominated field. Her instantly recognizable stylistic animals and voluptuous sexy ladies set her apart in an industry characterized by much harder edged imagery. We met Deb in 2014 after Nicki fell in love with the street art Deb had splashed around Melbourne. You can find examples of her work in places like Hosier Lane and on this basis we (Nicki) decided it would be awesome to have Deb come and ‘Vandalise’ a few rooms in our house with her wonderful talent. While Deb was here we of course liberally soused her with lashings of the Barossa‘s Best (if I do say so myself) and the result (late one night) was a mutual determination to create a beautiful image driven label (from Deb’s side) to go with a rich sexy red wine (from my side). As you can see Deb lived up to her end in spades, which left me with a quandary of my own. How do you transpose visual sensuality into something gorgeous that you can pour into a wine glass…???
Well, my first step was to choose a variety full of rich lingering curves… which was a complete no-brainer when Barossa Shiraz was at hand. Next – ‘Sex appeal by Cabernet’ took the potential of the curves and made them desirable and alluring in the mouth. The details spice structure and complexity were added bit by bit as Grenache, Mataro and Petit Verdot filled out the blend. The end result – I am very proud to say – is a wine that reflects art… and art that echoes the wine. A synergy of a couple of avant guard artists – one using inks and paints the other wielding grapes and wine.
