Palate:

Dave Lehmann has again produced a textbook Barossa Shiraz for Foundation Barossa. I’ve long been a fan of Dave’s David Franz wines of all colours and this bears all the characteristics of his craft.

2021 was the first of three consecutive la ñina vintages and produced wines of outstanding flavour development. There is the richness here sought by many drinkers. The satsuma fruit is supported by background oak that suggests cardamon and cinnamon spice. The oak is subtle but pleasantly ‘cedary’; I’m reminded of opening an antique wardrobe filled with tweed jackets and highly polished old leather boots.

This is a shiraz that delights the palate at release but will continue to give pleasure over many years to come.
