Slightly rough around the edges, this 2017 Old School 'Claret' Dry Red answers the budget conscious question of what is the best value for money answer to my daily problems... Comes by the dozen, because a bottle a day is definitely not going to break the budget!

12 Bottle Case of the Claret: $120

Production:

Grown in the Ebenezer Sand by the Schulz Family

Colour:

Deep Vermilion Red.

Nose:

A Mixed box red fruit, Cedar wood & licorice.

Palate:

Tight firm yet generous palate weight. Assertive but velvety tannins relax then allow the generous red fruits slip out and coat the tongue seductively. The mouth is filled from top to bottom, front to back in an assertive but not aggressive display of three point balance between the spice, fruit and sweet oak treatment. The tannins and firm acid cleanse and allow the wine to linger for an intensely enjoyable long time.

Philosophy:

Get a Claret-Dog Up Ya! The echoes of a mis-spent youth; Playing cards, smoking the old man's cigars whilst gathered around a crackling fire... Necking a purloined 'Claret' straight out the bottle. The heady lift of an old school Claret, no airs or graces - just a warm sense of companionship and deliciousness wrapped in a bit of a mongrel pack - the 2017 david Franz Dry Red Claret comes in a handy 12pack of 750mL slugs; each bottle finished with the ever so easy to access david Franz Screw cap - Cap comes off / Cap goes on.
